Really Cute Twitter Icons: Tweeters & Birdies

These Twitter icons were designed by the talented Mirjami Manninen, an illustrator from Finland who released the beautiful RSS feed set Feed Me Animals on Smashing Magazine last year. This new set contains eight transparent PNG icons for Twitter, available in resolutions of 128×128 pixels, 256×256 and 512×512. The sources are in EPS files (for CS4 and CS3), PSD files and AI files (for CS4).

Again, the set is available as a free download and can be used for any purpose without any restrictions whatsoever.

Smashing Magazine Comic Strip: Episode 1

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated Cartoons and Comic Strip Art and, to be honest, there was a good reason why we took some time to research on this topic. The truth is that we are pretty tired of the same kind of content appearing in the Web over and over and over again. During our winter break in December we came up with some new ideas, concepts, formats and projects that we will try to achieve with Smashing Magazine in 2009.

50 Stunning Underwater Pictures

Of all the different types of photography showcased on Smashing Magazine, underwater pictures are probably the most difficult to get. They require a very specialized equipment and the knowledge of some advanced techniques to get a perfect picture. You need to get the correct exposure, accurate focus, controlled movement of your subject and a pleasing color balance; you also have to deal with low light.
Underwater photos offen suffer from loss of color and contrast when taken at a significant depth.

Logotrend 2007: Leaves

In 2007 logo-design leaves stand for fresh ideas or – more generally – for an innovative way of thinking. In Web they are mostly used to communicate light-weight solutions as well as clean and unobtrusive designs. In fact, leaves, plants or ornaments which appear to be related to the nature can be found almost everywhere; it’s a trend that will probably be reversed soon, due to an extreme overuse of the theme in modern designs.
